CuNi8 NC012 C71500 Superior CuNi Alloy For Marine Environments With High Strength

CuNi8 NC012 C71500 The Superior CuNi Alloy for Marine Environments with High Strength

CuNi8 NC012 C71500 Copper-Nickel Alloy Wire is a copper-nickel alloy containing approximately 8% nickel and 92% copper. This alloy is well-known for its outstanding corrosion resistance, particularly in seawater and other harsh environments. CuNi8 offers a unique combination of high strength, moderate electrical and thermal conductivity, and excellent resistance to corrosion and biofouling. These properties make CuNi8 highly suitable for a variety of applications, particularly in marine, chemical processing, and electrical industries.

    Main physical properties:

    Max continuous operating temperature ℃

    250
    Resistance temperature coefficient x 10-5/℃(20℃-600℃)<57
Thermovoltage to copper at 20℃ in μV/K-22
    Thermal expansion coefficient ×10-6/K(20℃-400℃)17.5
    Thermal conductance at 20℃ W/mK75
Specific heat capacity at 20℃ J/gK0.38

Some key features of CuNi-8 include:

    • Composition:

Copper (Cu): Approximately 92%, providing excellent electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and ductility.

Nickel (Ni): Approximately 8%, which enhances the alloy's corrosion resistance, especially in marine environments, and increases its strength compared to pure copper.

Iron (Fe) and Manganese (Mn): Trace elements that further enhance the alloy’s mechanical properties and resistance to corrosion.

    • Corrosion Resistance:

Marine and Seawater Resistance: CuNi8 is highly resistant to seawater corrosion, making it ideal for marine applications such as seawater piping, heat exchangers, marine hardware, and offshore equipment. The 8% nickel content provides excellent protection against saltwater corrosion and biofouling (the accumulation of marine organisms on surfaces).

General Corrosion Resistance: The alloy also offers good resistance to mild acids, alkaline solutions, and brine, making it useful in chemical processing and industrial applications exposed to corrosive substances.

Erosion and Wear Resistance: CuNi8 has a high resistance to erosion and wear, which is crucial in applications where the alloy is subject to continuous exposure to flowing water or abrasive environments.

    • Mechanical Properties:

High Strength: The addition of 8% nickel improves the alloy's strength compared to pure copper, making CuNi8 suitable for applications that require a balance of strength and ductility.

Fatigue and Impact Resistance: CuNi8 exhibits good resistance to fatigue and impact, making it durable in environments subject to thermal cycling and mechanical stress.

Workability: The alloy remains relatively easy to form into various shapes and is suitable for processes such as cold working, hot working, and welding.

    • Electrical and Thermal Conductivity:

Moderate Electrical Conductivity: While CuNi8’s electrical conductivity is lower than that of pure copper, it still provides adequate electrical conductivity for many electrical and electronic applications, including wires and cables.

High Thermal Conductivity: The copper content ensures that CuNi8 retains good thermal conductivity, which is beneficial for applications such as heat exchangers, cooling systems, and thermal management systems.

    • Weldability and Fabrication:

Weldability: CuNi8 can be welded using conventional welding techniques such as TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas) and MIG (Metal Inert Gas), although care must be taken to control heat and prevent oxidation or defects during the process.

Fabrication: The alloy is easy to work with, whether through drawing, rolling, or extrusion, allowing it to be processed into wire, tubes, rods, and sheets for a variety of uses.

    Applications:

    • Marine and Offshore Applications: CuNi8 is extensively used in marine environments for seawater piping, heat exchangers, valves, desalination plants, offshore platforms, and marine hardware exposed to seawater and salt-laden air.
    • Electrical Components: Due to its moderate electrical conductivity, CuNi8 is employed in electrical cables, connectors, and electronic components, especially in applications where corrosion resistance is required.
    • Heat Exchangers and Cooling Systems: CuNi8’s high thermal conductivity makes it ideal for heat exchangers, cooling systems, and condensers used in chemical processing, power plants, and marine industries.
    • Chemical Processing Equipment: It is also suitable for industrial piping, heat exchangers, and reaction vessels in chemical processing plants exposed to corrosive environments.
